Championship Update 15 May 2022
Round 3 the Manx National Rally held in the Isle of Man was a two Leg double header event with mixed fortunes for the two crews who made the trip over the water
Friday saw early evening and night stages with Bob Gibbons Jon Harris having alternator failure finishing their leg one but Mike Simpson Dale Gibbons coming through unscathed with a top twenty placing showing great promise on Mike’s first visit to the Island
Saturday with alternator fixed Bob and Jon could have another crack at the event
This time it was Mike and Dale to suffer retirement when a nasty compression dip caused a visit to the scenery ending what was a very good run with two punctures and broken exhaust all this when a top ten finish and first historic home was on the cards.
So, leg two saw Bob and Jon home safe with points over the two legs being shared as is now the overall championship positions
Contenders now have a summer break with the next round being the Mewla Stages on the 28th August
Championship update following Dixies Challenge
1st May saw round two the Dixies Challenge take place on Epynt
Crews arrived to find Epynt shrouded in fog with drizzle making the stages very challenging quite a dramatic change as Saturday scrutineering took place in sunny summer like conditions
With no major incidents but numerous offs the event ran to time all day and was a credit to the organisers from the co-promotion by Forresters and Forest of Dean clubs
Current leading championship driver is Stuart Anderson in the Vauxhall Chevette HRS nice to see a leading car with no blue oval on bonnet for a change
Leading co-driver is Ian Jones who is seat hoping between a driver with a forest escort and one with a tarmac spec
Round 3 will see crews traveling over the water to the Manx National on the Isle of Man
Championship update following the Rallynuts Stages
We had a number of additional contenders register for the championship at signing on and now have the first points of the year recorded which can be seen in the relevant section on the website and as is often the case on early rounds several contenders are tying for various positions. Round two will be the Dixies Challenge on 1st May with the fast tarmac of the Epynt Ranges making a sharp contrast to the dust of round one.
First round of the championship takes place this weekend the Rallynuts and as several entrants have indicated that they are in the championship but have not registered they may sign up on Friday afternoon. Round two Dixies Challenge and round three Manx National are now taking entries which are filling up
The Cambrian will now be the final round following the postponement of the Red Kite as it was the reserve event.
